Plutusdao swap ratios: reading a 1:1 quote
Plutus, formerly PlutusDAO, is an Arbitrum-native governance aggregator whose liquid plsASSETs are backed by permanently locked positions. A 1:1 quote compares equal quantities of a plsASSET and its paired underlying token in the stated trade direction. The pool ratio depends on demand and can move away from parity.
What the ratio measures
Read a plsASSET-to-underlying quote in underlying tokens per plsASSET. At 1:1, the ratio is one underlying token per plsASSET. Reversing the quote reverses the units. Compare higher or lower figures only when the pair and direction remain the same.
The ratio measures token quantities. A dollar price, an annual yield and a fee schedule are separate figures. A reference to parity alone does not establish the amount received after any applicable charges.
Backing and market parity
Overcollateralization means there are more yield-bearing tokens in the backing than plsASSETs earning rewards. A pool swap ratio describes the exchange between the liquid token and its paired underlying asset, with demand for both determining the rate. More backing does not fix that rate at 1:1.
Selling through a liquidity pool exchanges the plsASSET; it does not unwind the original permanently locked position. Product-specific redemption terms are separate from that market sale.
Choosing between a pool and direct conversion
Plutus recommends liquidity pools for entry and warns that direct conversion can cause an immediate loss. The relevant comparison is the plsASSET amount returned for the same underlying input by each available route, with any applicable charges treated consistently. Direct conversion commits the deposited asset to permanent locking; a pool purchase acquires the existing liquid representation at the pool's rate.
This comparison applies where minting is available. plsARB and plsJONES are discontinued: they are no longer mintable and most pool liquidity has been removed. Their documented redemptions remain a separate route.
How buybacks affect a weak swap ratio
| Stage | Mechanism | Buyback conditions and effects |
|---|---|---|
| Swap rate falls | A falling swap rate can trigger a plsASSET buyback. | The threshold varies with the product and market conditions. |
| Market buyback | Plutus uses underlying tokens to purchase some of the plsASSET. | Purchases aim for a 1:1 swap rate; the pool ratio remains unguaranteed. |
| Yield continues after purchase | Acquired plsASSETs are taken out of circulation and do not farm rewards, while their underlying assets continue generating yield. | Overcollateralization increases and the continuing yield compounds for plsASSET users. |
